In this week’s podcast we are talking with Evan Pappas, a tech expert turned entrepreneur who is the CEO of Ocyan, a blockchain start-up that helps businesses deploy blockchain applications through their cloud infrastructure platform.
We discuss exactly what blockchains are in terms of what they are used for and how they allow networks to guarantee ownership and trust of data, the difference between private and public blockchains and how the governance and power over certain data and information is effected by both, and how smart contracts can automatically ensure that certain actions will be executed once specific requirements are met.
When talking about going from a techie to an entrepreneur, Evan advises people to start hiring and delegating as you need so that you don’t become a liability whilst trying to handle all sides of the business yourself. Time is the only resource you never have so make sure you aren’t wasting it; start building a prototype that you can use to demonstrate to people what you are trying to do, find investors and clients, and make sure you aren’t spending on time on people who aren’t serious about your work.

An Interesting Point
- When it comes to trying to find employment and making yourself look appealing in the tech world, you need to try to make your skills set as diverse as possible to show that you are more than just a degree. When it comes to blockchains for example, try to approach it as an engineer rather than a developer in that you understand how all of the languages work, even if you aren’t an expert in any specific one.
